“Set in the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games, the story follows Haymitch into the arena, where he forms an unlikely alliance with fellow tribute Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace) and joins a coalition determined to challenge the Capitol’s control under President Snow (Ralph Fiennes). As the competition unfolds, Haymitch risks everything to take down the Games from within the arena—setting in motion the rebellion that will change Panem forever.”
Beyond the question of Haymitch’s fate in the second Quarter Quell, Sunrise on the Reaping’s newest trailer makes waves thanks to its cast of actors stepping into younger versions of iconic characters from the original films. The standout reveal is Jesse Plemons portraying a youthful Plutarch Heavensbee, the role originated by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. It’s a casting choice that resonates on multiple levels: Hoffman’s final performance was in Mockingjay – Part 2, and cinephiles have long noted the uncanny resemblance between the two actors, often mistaking them for family.
