LONG THAI
Netflix’s long-running quest to revive The Chronicles of Narnia appears to have found its footing. With Barbie director Greta Gerwig behind the camera, the streamer is set to begin a new chapter in C.S. Lewis’s beloved fantasy universe with Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.
Serving as an origin story for the franchise, The Magician’s Nephew adapts the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’s series while shifting its timeline from the early 1900s to the 1950s. At the heart of the tale is the creation of Narnia by Aslan, voiced by Meryl Streep, in a sequence shaped by Greta Gerwig’s distinctive inspiration from British rock and roll culture. The narrative also introduces Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, whose accidental arrival in the magical realm sets them on a path that will leave a lasting mark on Narnian history. Along the way, the pair encounter both Aslan and Jadis, portrayed by Emma Mackey, long before she becomes known as the White Queen.
Bolstered by a cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Susan Wokoma, and Denise Gough, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew may prove worthy of the expansive big-screen treatment Netflix has planned. The film will first open in theaters and IMAX venues on February 12, 2027, before making its way to Netflix on April 2, 2027.
