RESIDENT EVIL – MOVIE TRAILERS

LONG THAI

Following the massive buzz generated by his horror hit Weapons last year, Zach Cregger’s latest venture has remained uncharacteristically quiet—especially for a film slated for release in just five months. The silence has finally broken with a debut look at his take on Resident Evil. Based on the initial footage, Cregger appears to be performing a delicate balancing act: honoring the iconic video game source material while injecting a fresh, distinct energy into the classic zombie trope.

Fresh off its exclusive debut at CinemaCon, Sony has unleashed the full teaser online, giving us our first real look at Zach Cregger’s interpretation of Capcom’s legendary survival-horror franchise.

The film features Austin Abrams—who also starred in Cregger’s Weapons—as Bryan, a medical courier whose routine delivery to Raccoon City quickly descends into a waking nightmare. While the Resident Evil franchise is a veteran of the silver screen, Cregger’s vision carves out a unique middle ground. It steers clear of the stylized, over-the-top action spectacle of the Paul W. S. Anderson era, yet avoids the pitfalls of 2021’s Welcome to Raccoon City, which struggled to find its footing while strictly mimicking game beats.

Instead, this project leans into the core DNA of the series: the “wrong place, wrong time” horror of an ordinary person thrust into an extraordinary nightmare. By focusing on a random civilian’s encounter with biological terrors, the film feels more like a spiritual expansion than a rigid page-for-page adaptation.

Resident Evil is set to hit theaters September 18.
