Originally reported by Variety, Sony Pictures has confirmed that Tom Hardy will play Venom. Tom Hardy, who played Bane in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, will play the frequent Spider-Man villain in his own film next year, which will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland).
Venom (along with Spider-Man) will headline Sony’s slice of the Marvel universe. It is still unknown how Spider-Man and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will play into this Sony universe (if at all).
