The Hollywood Reporter is indicating that the long in development James Cameron-produced Robert Rodriguez-directed film adaptation of Battle Angel Alita is finally moving toward casting its female lead.
Three actresses are in the running to play the lead character. Zendaya (Disney Channel, Spider-Man: Homecoming) is reportedly the front runner for the role, but Maika Monroe (It Follows, Independence Day Resurgence) and Rosa Salazar (The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials) are also in the running too.
Battle Angel Alita features a heroine who is a female cyborg found by a scientist in a landfill, who is then trained to be an assassin. Fans of the anime and manga have been hearing about this film in development by James Cameron for many years, and this casting news is definitely good news for those waiting to see this film become a reality.
