Impact of Spider-Man’s Sony-Marvel deal on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

With the huge news that Marvel has come to terms on a deal with Sony Pictures to incorporate Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are many implications that such a move will have on the entire Phase 3 plans for Marvel.  By introducing Spider-Man into Captain America 3: Civil War, Marvel and Sony will be acknowledging the presence of Spider-Man into the larger world of superheroes so established by the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor.

There are many questions yet to be answered (such as who will play Spider-Man in yet another reboot of the series), but Marvel made it clear that they will be making room in its Phase 3 schedule to set up Spider-Man in the future.

Here is the new Phase 3 schedule as announced by Marvel:

2016

  • May 6, 2016 – Captain America: Civil War
  • November 4, 2016 – Doctor Strange

2017

  • May 5, 2017 – Guardians of the Galaxy 2
  • July 27, 2017 – Spider-Man
  • November 3, 2017 – Thor: Ragnarok

2018

  • May 4, 2018 – The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1
  • July 6, 2018 – Black Panther
  • November 2, 2018 – Captain Marvel

2019

  • May 3, 2019 – The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2
  • July 12, 2019 – Inhumans
